AUDIO REDIRECTION

Project Description

This project is rooted in the integration between intangible audio and physical object, as an industrial design major I am naturally drawn objects. I find myself on a daily basis observing products in order to become more aware of material, form, aesthetics, manufacturability, reusability / recyclability. Therefore, I wanted to create a project that explores some of these phenomena specifically re-purposing and modification of products and materials. I started by  sourcing a pair loose 12” speaker drivers from a discount audio supply store at no cost. These drivers will be used to deliver an input source of audio that will agitate other physical components in order to create new audio. This new audio created is picked up by 3 contact microphones that are mounted around the surrounding objects. This audio is then amplified for the audience to hear, therefore this audio becomes the main output of the object. The other components of the project were sourced at the scrap yard a place where objects traditionally go to be recycled or reused. In a neglected section of the J & S scrap yard I found the objects that will become something more than junk.

The Main concept behind this piece was pushing the idea of reuse in a tangible and intangible way through objects and audio. By creating an object that visually expresses the audio through physical movement.
